Artist Profile - Ambrose Burne
The work of Ambrose Burne is inspired by patterns of growth, movement and progression found in organic forms. Over the past 3 years he has developed a working practice that fuses the techniques and discipline of traditional blacksmithing with designs inspired by contemporary art and forms from the natural world. The result of this is the production of highly finished, innovative sculptural and architectural metalwork suitable for a range of interior and exterior, domestic and public spaces.
Forms derived from studying how growth and movement is visually expressed in the natural world; especially focussing on the logic and progression of components in relation to overall form.
Metal as medium - the possibilities in form offered by hot forging metal and using traditional techniques in creative ways as an integral part of the design concept. This has led to experiments forging structural section materials and playing with the transition between stock and manipulated metal.
