Artist Profile - Helen Jones
Two of my favourite things are pottery and gardening, the challenge of joining these two passions together has led me towards garden sculptural work.
The sundials, birdbaths, jardiniers and planters I make are all in high-fired frost proof clay. Some have oxides painted onto them, whilst others are glazed or partly glazed showing the original clay body in the unglazed areas of the pottery piece, thus contrasting the matt clay interestingly with the shiny glaze.
Each piece is individually designed and sometimes with a particular garden in mind. it is many years ago since I was first introduced to the medium of clay, and gradually realised its full potential. my initial 'love affair' with clay led to a career change, and I left nursing to become a pottery teacher. Now thirty years later, and the 'love affair' continues!
I have exhibited my work in Hampton Court, the Garden Festival of Wales and the German Garden festival in Stuttgart and have also displayed my work in many venues across Wales.
