Artist Profile - Martin Duffy

Martin has been a professional figurative sculptor since 1996.  He studied figurative sculpture at Stafford Art Collage, under the R.B.S sculptors Michael Talbot and Steven White, before this he was the assistant to the well established public art sculptor John McKenna RBS. Prior to this he was a professional woodcarver.

Martin assisted Jonathan Wylder on all his large public and private commissions from 1996 to 2002 including the first Marquis of Westminster, Belgrave square The Scotsman, Edinburgh, Millennium Man, Tyringham hall, Mother Teresa, Calcutta and The Mermaid at Cowes. He has also worked as an assistant to other Sculptors including Irena Sedlecka RBS on the Beau Brummel monument in London.

Since 2002 Martin has solely worked on his own work specialising in commissions mostly of children. I try to produce powerful dramatic sculptures with a beauty of form. Sculpture should be tactile, making the viewer want to interact physically as well as visually'.
With a life time fascination with the way the body moves, I find my self drawn to dancers and am at present working with the Royal Ballet principle dancer, Tamara Rojo. I enjoy the challenge of capturing the essence of movement, balance and tension with a static sculpture.
I exhibit my work at sculpture events and at the Chelsea Flower show.
During the time since leaving Collage, Martin has enjoyed continued success, having work in private collections in Great Britain, America and Asia. Working mostly to commission he has produced work for many private clients and companies. He has recently completed a sculpture for the sponsors of one of the new Olympic training arenas in Essex. His work is produced in bronze, ceramic and resin and covers a diverse range of sculpture including public art, garden sculpture, animal sculpture.
