Artist Profile - Mary Kenny

Mary trained at Camberwell College of Arts and Crafts in London where she took a degree course in ceramics.

She is a full-time potter with a showroom and a workshop in the black and white village of Weobley. her work has evolved over the years from being nearly all finely thrown ware to much larger pieces with quote a lot of formed slab ware. She has always been attracted to the many different glaze effects available by using different clays and kiln temperatures. For this reason she works with gas and electric kilns firing up to 1300 degrees. She manages to achieve some very unusual and exciting glazes.

At the moment she is exploring the possibilities of smoke fired and raku ware and also more sculptural pieces, which she will be displaying in the garden.

She is an excellent teacher and has regular classes at the pottery in Weobley. She also exhibits at many of the local galleries and in London, and is a regular at h'art week and at the Hay Festival.
