Artist Profile - Nick Helme

Born and brought up on a farm in rural Herefordshire, Nick has an inborn affinity with nature, its rhythms and influence on shape and form. The day with which he works is derived from the earth he loves and respects and his ceramic pieces are a reflection of this affinity. Each piece is individually finished with a rich glaze, inviting the viewer to hold and fee l the richness of each article.

Woodcarving is an ancient an, used by early man to enrich his surroundings and separate him from more primitive forms of life, and for Nick it was a natural progression from the use of day. Again making use of the bounty produced by nature, these hand carved sculptures are from locally sourced beech, carefully created to reveal and enhance the beauty of the grain.

Metal working is a more recent form of expression Nick has begun to work with, and he finds the linear and abstract aspects bestow a new dimension to the sensuous shapes of ceramics and wood hitherto created.

Nick is happy to deliver in Herefordshire free and further a field for a negotiable fee.
