Artist Profile - Sue Morrison
I was drawn to sculpture through stone carving, the materials, process, skill and art of changing and imbuing a stone with reflective meaning, and I enjoy the slow medative process of carving.
During my academic art studies I have explored the different qualities, textures and properties of various stones that I have gathered from quarries throughout Britain.
Born a Scot, I have lived in the Welsh Marches for 25 years and have been influenced by the particular nature of the border landscape. the landscape has influenced my key themes of the natural and symbolic representations of the origins and cycles of life.
My recent BA in Sculpture included carving, casting, welding, using found objects, creating mixed media installations and composite relief work.
I always find myself returning to carving in stone.
